MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Malacañang on Wednesday clapped back at Vice President Sara Duterte over her remarks that the ongoing probe on anomalous deals involving flood control projects was just for show and that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. could resolve all issues in one day if he is really serious in eliminating corruption.
“Only one day to complete the investigation? That is absolutely preposterous. The president does not conduct an investigation ala tokhang way,” Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro said in English and Filipino during a press conference.
“The President respects due process. The President respects human rights. Everything goes through a process,” said Castro, referring to the former president's drug campaign dubbed "Operation Tokhang" where police would knock on the doors of suspected drug peddlers, and users and arrest them. The campaign was allegedly abused by law enforcers, resulting in rights violations and deaths. It was also for this reason that Duterte was now detained at The Hague, Netherlands following his arrest in March on orders of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and awaits trial for alleged crimes against humanity.
Duterte had quipped that Marcos’ audit on flood control projects was “too little too late” and that it would only take a day for the chief executive to identify all those involved in corruption if he really wanted to uncover their identities.
Castro countered that the Vice President should have thought of suggesting it to her father, former leader
Rodrigo Duterte, who himself purported admitted that “ghost projects were rampant in the DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways” under his watch.
“Did he ever fire a DPWH Secretary during his time? Again, this investigation is for the people and not mere politicking,” the Palace Press Officer said., This news data comes from:http://sayob.redcanaco.com
